Walking Trails

Kansas City is surrounded by miles upon miles of beautiful, scenic walking trails. Check out some of the top ones below!

Burr Oak Woods

Burr Oak Woods Conservation & Nature Center was built in 1982 making it the first nature center in the state of Missouri. It features 1,071.4 acres of restored woodlands, prairies, limestone boulders, steep forested hillsides, and a trail complex leading visitors through many of the features the center provides.

White Tail Trail

White Tail Trail is a 2.6 mile loop through an urban forest. The trail offers a variety of activities for visitors and is a great option for all skill levels! It features a river & gorgeous scenery, along with plentiful wildlife.

 

Mill Creek Streamway Park

Mill Creek Streamway Park is a linear park that features 17 miles of both walking & biking trails. There is also three miles of equestrian trails &  designated, open spaces for jogging, picnicking & hiking. The trail extends through the cities of Shawnee & Lenexa, and ends in Olathe.

Blue River Greenway Trail

The Blue River Greenway Trail is one of the oldest trail systems in KC. The east side has about 15 miles of easy trails by the river & they increase in difficulty once you pass Blue River Rd. The west side has approximately four  miles of trails with amazing bluff views over Blue River.

Maple Woods Natural Area

Maple Woods Natural Area is a National Natural Landmark & reminds us that the wildlands dominated this area just 200 years ago. It contains impressive black maple, northern red, white & bur oaks, bitternut and shagbark hickory, red elm, basswood, black walnut, and white ash trees. This natural area 18 acres open to the public that includes a system of hiking trails.

Happy Rock to Shoal Creek Trail

Happy Rock to Shoal Creek Trail is a 2.4 mile loop that is perfect for all skill levels. This is a great trail for dog lovers as you can bring your furry friend as long as they are kept on a leash. For those of you that are not fans of bumpy, dirt trails, this is also the perfect trail for you! The whole trail is paved.

Wyandotte County Lake Loop Trail

Wyandotte County Lake Loop Trail is located on a lake that features a 9.7 mile loop trail that offers a wide variety of activities and is accessible year-round. It is also dog friendly as long as they are kept on a leash. The trails here are for more experienced hikers as the trail offers a variety of different terrains.
